The Relationship Between the Ummah and the Prophet ﷺ in the Context of Milad-un-Nabi ﷺ
The 20th of April actually gives us an opportunity to refresh the memory of Milad-un-Nabi ﷺ.
Although according to the Islamic calendar this day is celebrated on 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal,
the real purpose is more than a specific date — it is to revive the love, teachings, and Seerah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ in our lives.
The Ummah’s connection with its Prophet ﷺ is not merely a belief, but a love that dwells in the depths of the heart.
This is the bond that connects a servant to Allah, and this bond is founded on love, obedience, and loyalty. The great personality to whom our affiliation belongs is our Master, the Seal of the Prophets, peace and blessings be upon him.
He ﷺ is the Prophet who sacrificed his entire life for the Ummah.
When the occasion of Milad-un-Nabi ﷺ comes, it is not just a day of celebration, but a day of renewing the bond between the Ummah and the Prophet ﷺ.
This day reminds us:
Whose great Prophet’s ﷺ Ummah we are,
How much we must act upon his teachings, and
To what extent we have given space to his love in our lives.
The Beloved Prophet’s ﷺ Unmatched Love for His Ummah
The Holy Prophet’s ﷺ relationship with his Ummah is such that:
He ﷺ endured every hardship but saved the Ummah.
Even when bloodied in Taif, he did not curse.
He would always say: “Ummati, Ummati” — My Ummah, My Ummah.
It is this very love whose remembrance on the day of Milad-un-Nabi ﷺ further softens hearts and moistens eyes.
The True Message of Milad
Milad-un-Nabi ﷺ teaches us not just to celebrate, but to transform our lives.
We should read and adopt the Seerah of the Prophet ﷺ.
We should mold our character to resemble the character of the Prophet ﷺ.
The real Milad is that:
Our conduct becomes a mercy,
Our tongue becomes a mirror of truth,
Our heart becomes soft for every member of the Ummah.
The Responsibility of the Ummah
If we are true members of the Ummah, then we must:
Give precedence to the love of the Prophet ﷺ over everything,
Make acting upon Sunnah our identity,
Make Durood and Salam a part of our lives,
Spread peace, love, and brotherhood in our society.
Reflect for a moment:
The Prophet ﷺ who used to stay awake at night for us,
Who will intercede for us on the Day of Judgment—
Have we given space to his religion in our lives?
Is our celebration of Milad in accordance with his teachings?
Milad-un-Nabi ﷺ is actually the name of reviving the bond between the Ummah and the Prophet ﷺ.
This day not only gives us joy but also reminds us of a responsibility — that we become true followers of our Prophet ﷺ.
Allahumma salli ‘ala Sayyidina Muhammadin wa ‘ala aali Sayyidina Muhammadin wa barik wa sallim
O Allah! Grant us true love for our Prophet ﷺ, make us among those who follow his Sunnah, and grant us his intercession on the Day of Judgment. Ameen.
